This shot was inspired by a comment a holder made on the sidelines. Someone had commented, "great catch" or "great block" or something on that order. The holder said, "that's something a holder never hears. If the kick doesn't go through they might blame the kicker or the holder but if it does go through no one ever says, great hold!"
With that in mind I thought about shots of the holder. Most of the time they are from the side because that is the only angle available. This shot from a Mounds View high school football game is taken from outside the end zone. Like a lot of high school fields there is no lighting coming from the end of the field so the only lighting is from the side and and the linemen are in the dark. I laid on my stomach, aimed through the centers legs and prefocused manually on the holder before the snap. Maybe not the best shot technically but I think it captures the players total concentration and the preciseness of what he has to do. Great Hold!
